The PIE, Nous Group and Navitas launch global HE survey

Released on September 18, 2024, the anonymous survey will build on the findings of Nous Group and Navitas’ inaugural 2022 survey conducted in the wake of the pandemic.

“The pandemic is more distant in the rearview mirror now but we’re dealing new challenges, like increased government regulation in several of the key anglophone study destinations. It seems like a good time to check how universities are adjusting,” Nous Group principal Matt Durnin told The PIE News.

Whereas the previous survey focused largely on Australia, Canada, the UK and New Zealand, “this time we’d like to see more responses from the US and the major alternative study destinations across Europe, the Middle East and Asia,” added Durnin.

Key findings of the 2022 survey included details of the sector-wide drive to renew internationalisation post-Covid, while new global models of student recruitment and rapid digital change were taking hold.

The previous report highlighted the pressure felt by institution leaders to return cashflows to pre-pandemic levels while balancing revenue demands with student volume, diversity and quality.

“We hoped it would provide a useful measuring stick for all international HE leaders to view their own operations against, helping them to understand if they were conforming to or diverging from the emerging trends,” said Durnin.

Sharing the anonymised results means we can ensure we provide coverage and insight to help leaders in their work and to engage with peers to find solutions to shared issues

This year, the sector is responding to different challenges, with major policy changes restricting international students in Canada and Australia and continued geopolitical uncertainty in many regions across the world.

“At The PIE, we strive to keep close to The PIE’s community to understand which of the myriad pressures in their role as international education leaders are top of mind in the morning,” said The PIE’s CEO, Amy Baker.

“Sharing the anonymised results means we can ensure we provide coverage and insight to help leaders in their work and to engage with peers to find solutions to shared issues – so along with Nous and Navitas, we’re pleased to be engaged in this global initiative”

The outcomes of the survey will be distributed in a free report that the authors hope will help to inform institutions’ internationalisation strategies including TNE and student recruitment in the coming years.

The survey closes on October 1, 2024. Submit your responses here.
