“This agreement with AACSB, one of the most important international accreditation institutions, is part of the Association’s vision to develop academic excellence, improve the efficiency of Arab educational institutions, and enhance their competitiveness,” said AArU secretary general Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama.
The collaboration aims to pilot cooperation between and AArU, exploring the opportunity for members of AArU to become associate members of AACSB.
With a global network of over 1,900 member organisations across 100 countries, AACSB aims to elevate the quality and impact of business schools globally and enhance their positive societal contributions.
The partnership with AArU was established by the signing of an MOU by Salama and AACSB president Lily Bi at the AACSB MENA Conference on January 15, convening over 170 delegates from 25 countries.
“It is beautiful to see a MENA conference growing beyond MENA, and to see interest growing in this very important and very dynamic region,” said Ihsan Zakri, AACSB regional head of the Middle East and Africa told The PIE News.
He said that the “wonderful partnership” would “unlock a lot of opportunities” at institutions across Arabic speaking countries that are interested in “quality improvement”.
“We are recognised as the trend setter of quality in business education globally, and AArU – which was founded in 1964 – brings its reach and history and its deep connection to the market,” Zakri added.

Upon signing the agreement, Bi emphasised AACSB’s commitment to creating a more globally connected and impactful business education ecosystem in the Arab region.
While business school enrolments are stabilising in most markets after the substantial growth of the past decade, the market for business education in Arabic–speaking countries is “booming”, according to Bi.
“The Middle East, North Africa and Asia Pacific are the markets where we are seeing the strongest growth,” she said, highlighting the growing demand for more specialised master’s programs including MBAs.
