Kuldeep Dagar, Association of Indian Universities

Introduce yourself in three words or phrases

I am Dr. Kuldeep Dagar, currently serving as Joint Secretary at the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). My work focuses on equivalence of foreign qualifications,  internationalisation of higher education, global partnerships, and fostering collaborations between Indian and international universities.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy interacting with people from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. Engaging with experts from different continents brings fresh perspectives on various global issues, making each day a learning experience.

Best and worst work trips?

I love travelling, meeting new people, and experiencing different cultures. Every work trip has been a memorable and enriching experience, so I don’t consider any trip to be the worst. Each journey adds value in its own way.

If you could learn a language instantly, which would you pick and why?

Apart from the languages I already know, I would choose Spanish because it is widely spoken globally, and I appreciate its rhythmic tone, rich expression, and cultural depth.

What makes you get up in the morning?

Living in such an exciting time, seeing my efforts materialise into meaningful global collaborations keeps me motivated. The opportunity to contribute more and make a greater impact is what drives me every day.

Champion/cheerleader we should all follow and why?

There are many inspiring individuals, and each has a unique story and message to share. I believe everyone can be a champion in their own way.

Best international education conference and why?

The UKENIC Conference 2022 was an exceptional experience. It was highly relevant, engaging, and provided a great platform to discuss contemporary issues in higher education.

Worst conference food/beverage experience?

I won’t name any, but conferences that offer uninspiring or generic arrangements just for the sake of organising them tend to be underwhelming.

Book or podcast recommendation for others in the sector?

I believe in reading books that energise and motivate me. They help me stay focused, avoid distractions, and work toward my goals with clarity and determination.

Describe a project or initiative you’re currently working on that excites you.

I am actively working on facilitating partnerships between Indian and foreign universities, contributing to a government research project on internationalization, and assessing the quality of online programs to ensure academic excellence. These initiatives are shaping the future of global higher education collaboration, which makes them truly exciting to be part of.
